2023 Summer Matching Campaign Update
Reflecting on the Impact of the 2023 Summer Matching Challenge
As we gear up for our 2024 Summer Matching Campaign, we want to take a moment to celebrate the result of last summer’s efforts. We are moved by the difference your support and generosity have made in the lives of thousands in Uganda.
Thanks to you, we not only met our goal but exceeded it!
Impact by the Numbers:
- Total Raised: $159,219 from 101 dedicated donors
- People Impacted: 29,862
- Rainwater Collection Systems Installed: 44
- Schools Benefited: 42
- Water Filtration Stations Set Up: 84
- Handwashing Stations with Soap Provided: 84
- WASH Training Delivered: 1,260+ minutes
These resources have transformed schools by providing safe, reliable access to clean water and improving sanitation and hygiene practices.
Let’s hear from some of the individuals whose lives have been positively affected by these projects.
Gracious Kisakye, 15 years old, Bwetyaba Primary School
Before the installation of the rainwater collection system, students like Gracious faced the daily challenge of fetching water from a distant borehole. This task often led to missed classes and poor hygiene practices. “It was difficult for us to maintain proper hygiene during menstruation due to inadequate water. Some girls would not return to school until their periods ended,” Gracious shared. The new water system has changed their lives, enabling them to focus on their education and maintain proper hygiene.
Fountain of Hope: Nango Primary School
Nango Primary School faced severe challenges before the installation of the Rainwater Collection System. The children had to walk 15 kilometers to fetch water, which affected their health and education. Since the installation, school enrollment has surged, hygiene practices have improved, and the community’s overall well-being has been enhanced. “Gone are the days when we were a laughingstock of the community. We now have a reason to smile,” shared the Assistant Head Teacher, Simon.
Nasuk Grace Atim, 16 Years Old, Nabuganye Primary School
Grace described the strenuous task of carrying water from a borehole 2 km away from the school, which often resulted in missed classes and poor hygiene. “After the construction of the water tanks, our lives changed. We no longer have to move long distances to fetch water,” Grace shared. The new water systems have significantly improved their hygiene practices and educational experiences.
Looking Ahead As we celebrate the success of our 2023 campaign, we are excited to embark on the 2024 Summer Matching Campaign. Your ongoing support will be crucial in continuing our mission to provide safe water to even more communities in Uganda.
Thank you for being an essential part of our UWP Tribe. Together, we are bringing safe water to Uganda today, tomorrow, and forever.
