Fairtrade Crafts

We’ve been connecting with local artisans for years now in an effort to build mutually beneficial relationships that further our impact. By providing access to an international market, we’re able to offer these crafters the chance to sell their goods in sizable lots at significantly increased prices. In turn this amazing workmanship provides us with a great connection point to invite people into what we’re doing in Uganda, while also helping to facilitate our work with clean water projects.

Our primary source for the jewelry is from a group of ladies that live up on a wind-swept hill on the edge of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.  This community’s primary source of income is the local stone quarry.  The women we work with have spent most of their adult and teenage years earning money working in the quarry busting rocks into gravel 12 hours a day to earn less than one dollar for their toil.  We connected with these women through our work with the Ugandan Water Project as we were looking to help develop small business opportunities. Instead of working as much in the quarry, they now spend much more time making beads together and are excited about their future. We also recently connected with their church to install a rainwater tank in their community!
